Caine muscles in on IronMan Series

"The endurance races suit me a lot but I'm just as good as the other guys in the eliminator formats.

"it turns into endurance by the last race.

"I got third in the (open IronMan) Australian titles, so I can keep up with the guys in those short ones.

"It's just about putting it all together and not making mistakes.

"I've put on a little bit of muscle and that should suit these shorter races and help me keep up with the other guys.

"For these explosive races you've got guys like Shannon and Zane (Holmes) there in a board start and you can't let yourself get muscled out.

"It's good to be lean for the Gold to go for four hours but when you're doing a 15-minute race you need explosive power."

Eckstein knows consistency goes a long way in this series, with his brother winning the last title despite only one round victory.

"It's all about consistency," he said. "If you're getting close to podium finishes every race then you're pretty much going to win the series.

"That's what I'm thinking about. You're trying to win everything but a podium is a success."
