FANS OF all things animated need not give a second thought about how to spend the day on Saturday. just get out of bed and head straight down to old Nicosia where the Ant Comic Book Festival will be taking place. Based on the great success of last year’s event, the occasion sees all kinds of people come together in a casual and fun environment while they browse through a whole host of unusual comic books.
Set to take place at the Stoa Papadopoulou near the popular Kala Kathoumena cafe, the event will be welcoming various local artists including Christopher Keith Malapitan (creator of the first Cyprus graphic novel The Tunnel) and Tasos Anastasiades (multiple award winner and creator of Nasia in Space).
The goal of the festival is to promote and make people aware of the comic book culture in Cyprus as well as discovering that the world of comics isn’t just for kids. The event will also include an exhibition of rare comic book collections, particularlry issues from the ‘Golden and Silver Age’ of American comics, European comics from the 30s and 40s, as well as rare Arabic translations of American Comics from the 60s and 70s.
But there will also be lots of entertainment to keep you on your toes including jugglng shows and plenty of music. What’s more, organisers encourage all avid comic book fans to go along dressed as their favourite hero with a prize to be given to the very best of the lot!
