Martha Aliaga, educator, statistician

From 1981 to 1985, she taught in the department of mathematics, statistics and computer science at American University. in the late 1980s, she taught in the mathematics department at the University of the District of Columbia.

during these periods, she also taught at the University of Michigan, and she commuted between her home in Columbia and Ann Arbor. in 1986, she received a doctorate in statistics from Michigan.

Martha Beatriz Bilotti Aliaga was born in Mendoza, Argentina. she graduated from the University of Buenos Aires and received a master’s degree from the Inter-American Center for the Teaching of Statistics in Santiago, Chile.

She taught in the Dominican Republic until 1972, when she moved to Ann Arbor, where she became an associate professor at the University of Michigan.

She was co-author of a college textbook, “Interactive Statistics,” and in 2002, she was president of the Caucus for Women in Statistics.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Alfredo Aliaga of Columbia; three children, Viviana Soper of San Francisco, Pablo Aliaga of Takoma Park and Eduardo Aliaga of San Francisco; a brother; and nine grandchildren.
