“Mom you are the best, always ahead of the rest,” Murthy writes in “A Poem for My Mom,” an homage written for her mother’s birthday. “Your presence my dear mom,” the poem continues, “is the most soothing balm, each day with you is dear, I wish I was always near, you are a treasure so rare, as you cherish us with your care.” In a similar rhyming style, Murthy offers poetry on a wide range of topics including lighthearted pieces about holidays and more serious reflections on poverty, pregnancy and human trafficking. Influenced by her roles as various international health organizations and her career as a physician, the collection spans a broad range of influences and artistic tones.

“The poems are a reflection of my thoughts expressed as rhymes,” Murthy says. “The book will make readers laugh, cry and reflect on the various themes in life including its imperfections.”

Intended to entertain and engage readers on a varied array of ideas, the book is the first published work of poetry from an accomplished educator and author in the medical field. Concise and focused on individual topics, the poems are intended to convey Murthy’s inner dialogue in times of peace, turmoil and reflection.
