The Million Year Picnic – MYP/Team Weist Auctions end TONIGHT!

millionyear[kjc007]Dear Friends of the Million Year Picnic comic shop,You may remember our tribute to Jerry Weist earlier this year. Or you may have heard us talking about the various estate sales and large lots of comics that we have purchased, some portions of which have been for sale in the shop. The following auction ends TONIGHT!Short cut to all of the Team Weist auctions here:myworld.ebay.com/jerryweist/?_trksid=p4340.l2559Our first eBay auction of 2011 is up and running. We’re offering over 180 lots in a 10-day auction which started Thursday, April 21 and will be closing from 7 to 10:30 pm EST on Sunday, May 1st. Putting this one together was challenging, exhilarating, and, of course, extremely bittersweet. We’ve put together an eclectic mix of Golden Age horror and crime, GA Timelys, Silver Age DC and Marvel superhero titles, Atlas westerns, early DC war books, Golden Age “good girl art” titles, Golden Age Disney and Warner Brothers comics (many featuring Carl Barks interior art and Walt Kelly covers), and much, much more. there are many books which rank in the top 5 on the CGC census, including a significant number which are the very BEST copies CGC has graded I think Jerry would have liked this one.Among the many highlights of this auction are: .Our Army At War #83 (1959) – The first true appearance of Sgt. Rock, the most enduring and iconic soldier in comic book history..Action Comics #242 (1958) – The first appearance and origin of Brainiac.Eerie #1 (1947) – The very FIRST supernatural/horror comic ever published; with a bondage cover and art by Joe Kubert..Flash #123 (CGC 7.0), #127 (CGC 9.4), #137 (CGC 9.2) – three great SA Flash comics, the first a landmark golden age/ silver age crossover and the latter two being in fantastic condition while featuring Gorilla Grodd (#127) and the first Silver Age JSA appearance (#137)..incredible Hulk #102 (CGC 9.4) – The first issue of Hulk’s post-Tales to Astonish solo run..Superboy #98 (1962) – A CGC 9.4 copy of the first appearance of Ultra Boy.. Justice Traps The Guilty #1 (1947) – A CGC 8.5 GA Simon/Kirby classic with interior art and an electrocution cover by the duo..six Golden Age Timely books, featuring Captain America, Human Torch, and/or Sub-Mariner, including Captain America #70 and #71..Spellbound #1 & #2 (1952) – Great Golden Age Atlas horror stories.Green Lantern #5 (8.0) and #16 (9.0) – The first appearance and origin of Star Sapphire in #16..Wings Comics #59 (1945) – A phenomenal CGC 9.4 copy of this Golden Age war comic with a nice Lee Elias cover.3 Golden Age Shadow Comics issues with very striking, horrific covers including a Shadow volume 6 #8 in amazing CGC 9.2 condition..Strange Adventures #10 (CGC 7.5) and #11 (CGC 7.0) – Great DC science fiction from 1951..Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom #1 (1962) – A CGC 9.2 copy of the first appearance of the very first original Gold Key character..House of Mystery #2 (1952).Detective #301 (CGC 9.2) and Detective #304 (CGC 9.4) – 2 gorgeous Batman books from 1961..Tarzan #1 (1948 – Dell) – Cover/art by Jesse March, the start of a 257 issue run that spanned three publishing names and nearly 30 years..Dell Four Color #48 (1944) – The classic Porky Pig of the Mounties by Carl Barks..Walt Disney’s Comics and stories #46 (1944) – A beautiful CGC 9.0 copy with a classic war bonds cover. (There are three other Golden Age Disney Comics & stories rated CGC 8.0 or better and three rated CGC 7.5).Atlas/Marvel Westerns – At least half a dozen of which are the highest rated copies on the CGC census.those are just a few of the highlights. Check out all our listings to find a lot of other wonderful books.there are a couple of minor changes from previous auctions. First, we made the loose lots a little smaller – both in quantity and dollar value – to make them more accessible to individual collectors. secondly, we’ve given ourselves 2 more business days for shipping, in large part because of how good you’ve been at paying promptly. After a large auction, we were finding ourselves faced with getting as many as 100-150 lots out the door on the first available business day. because the Weistian method of shipping involves time, care, and LOTS of bubble wrap, we were feeling a little pressed to get everything shipped in one business day. so, we are giving ourselves (and the USPS) a little cushion so we can keep getting it right and maintain our perfect record for undamaged CGC containers. (By the way, a quick tip of the hat to the fine women and men at the Gloucester Post Office for their patience, kindness, and support. They work so hard with us to get your shipments to you smoothly and efficiently). One last thing – we’ve received a few inquiries about changing items from an auction item to a “buy-it-now” item at a prearranged price. while the offers have been quite generous, as a rule, it is our policy never to do that with any item upon which a bid has been placed. This policy may occasionally cost us some money, but we just want to insure fairness for everyone bidding in good faith. if you want to inquire about items that have no bids or you have want list items that we may have in our current 20,000 book inventory, please feel free to contact us. Good luck to everyone making bids! We’re already starting to map out our next auction for June or July 2011. We held back some choice books from our most recent CGC shipment, and we have a batch of books in the pipeline which surfaced in November but we kept to savor for a little longer, including Uncle Scrooge #1, tales to Astonish #27, and some fine Golden Age Avon Science Fiction comics. As always, thanks for your continued support! All the best,Team WeistCare of The Million Year Picnic99 MT Auburn STCambridge, MA 02138617-492-6763
